# The 4byte.directory will be under new management

I wrote the [first commit](https://github.com/pipermerriam/ethereum-function-signature-registry/commit/d11ee210b449468eb4e1e960953c17f4c94f6f93) to this project in the hospital room the day my daughter was born. Feel free to take that as a touching family reference or a sign that I had some work/life balance issues that needed attention.
I've run this application for the last 7 years and have made the data available to the community free of charge or licensing. I have no real metrics to measure how many projects use the database, but it maintains a sustained 100 requests-per-second which amounts to roughly 8.6 million requests every day. This doesn't even account for the projects that use a local snapshot or copy of the database.
Managing infrastructure isn't my specialty. This has been apparent throughout the years as I've caused outages from things like expired SSL certificates. Recently I've decided that I no longer wish to manage this project, and thus have found it a new caretaker.
The team that runs [beaconchain.in](https://beaconcha.in/) has stepped up to take over the care and feeding of the directory. In the coming weeks I will transferring ownership of the domain and the application to that team, after which they will be the sole owners and operators.
